How to choose bedding for babies and children

Bedtime is one of the most important moments of the day. The right bedding makes it a little softer – and makes it easier to keep the bed fresh in a busy everyday life.

Here is our guide to choosing bedding for babies and children: sizes, materials, how many sets you need and how colours can bring calm to the nursery.

Baby size or junior?

Children's bedding usually comes in two sizes. Always check the measurements of your duvet before you buy.

Our Cortado duvet cover and Mocca duvet cover come in baby, measuring 70x100 cm, and junior, measuring 100x140 cm.

For the pillow, there is the Cortado pillowcase, measuring 45x40 cm – the standard size for a children's pillow.

Materials: choose something soft and breathable

Little ones have delicate skin and sleep many hours a day, so the material is the most important choice.

Cotton is a classic choice because it feels soft against the skin and can handle frequent washing. Our duvet covers and pillowcases are sewn in Denmark from 100% cotton and are made to last – wash after wash.

To keep things simple, Cortado also comes as a baby bedding set and a junior bedding set with a duvet cover and a pillowcase.

How many sets – and how to wash them

With little children, accidents happen: a leaky nappy, a bit of sick or a night with a temperature. Many parents find two to three sets useful, so there is always a clean one ready.

One on the bed, one in the wash and one in the cupboard is a good rule of thumb.

Our bedding is washed at 30°C. A good tip is to turn the cover inside out and close it before it goes in the machine.

Colours that bring calm

The nursery should be a place where it feels good to wind down. Muted, warm colours and a calm pattern are easy to live with – and easy to pair with the rest of the room.

Cortado is a warm brown tone met by beige in a classic check. Mocca is a deep shade in a calm check. Both appear across our clothing and accessories, so the room and the wardrobe can work together – for example with a Cortado hooded towel.
